Peter III Fedorovich - Emperor of All Russia, the first representative of the Holstein-Gottorp dynasty on the Russian throne. The grandson of Peter I is the son of his daughter Anna and Karl Friedrich.

The first thing Peter did was to make peace with Prussia, which eliminated all the successes of Russia in the Seven Years' War. During his short reign, Peter III issued a large number of decrees. The most significant: the abolition of the Office of Secret and Investigative Affairs (Secret Chancellery) - the main body of political investigation and court in Russia.

In 1762, Pyotr Fedorovich died in Ropsha under unclear circumstances. The official version was death from illness, but many contemporaries and researchers insist on violent causes of his death.

PALACE OF PETER III

  • After a six-month reign, he was overthrown as a result of a palace coup that enthroned his wife Catherine II, and soon lost his life.
  • During the reign of Catherine, many impostors impersonated Peter Fedorovich (about forty cases were recorded), the most famous of which were Emelyan Pugachev and Stepan Maly in Montenegro.
  • Among the hobbies of the Grand Duke was music. He achieved serious success in playing the violin, arranged concerts. It is known that in his collection there were violins by such famous masters as Stradivari, Ruggieri, Amati, and in Oranienbaum, through the efforts of Peter Fedorovich, a music school was established for the children of court servants.
  • Relations between Peter and Catherine did not develop, but this did not prevent the fact that in 1754 they had a son Pavel, the future Pavel I Petrovich, and then a daughter Anna, who died in infancy.
